As many local residents are aware, the Southsea Coastal Scheme project works is currently taking place and the beach and promenade directly outside the Lifeguard HQ is closed to the public until December 2024. Unfortunately, this means that the annual sponsored and fundraising festive dip in the sea cannot go ahead in the usual location and using the Lifeguard Headquarters facility as a base.
Therefore, the Charity Club have decided to hold a low-key event on the beach near the Southsea Beach Cafe, allowing those who would like to take part in the chilly dip an opportunity to come along and join in.
The traditional ‘fancy dress’ theme will not happen this year due to the fact that anyone taking part will need to change on the beach or under a shelter with no fixed changing facility or showers available, but if anyone feels the need to dress up in any way then they are most welcome!
The dip will commence at 11am on Christmas Day at the east side of the pier, and any members of the public are welcome to join us. There will be no sponsorship forms, but instead supporters will be able to help the charity by giving on the day – fundraising will be available in the form of a collection box on the beach for cash collections, Justgiving donations online and a card reader available on the day for any contactless donations.
