Today one of our own lifeguard members, Jack Allman, successfully carried out a charity cross Solent paddle on a lifeguard rescue board from Ryde on the Isle of Wight to our lifeguard station on Southsea Seafront.
The 4.5 mile journey across 2 main shipping lanes took place in excellent weather conditions, although the sea was a little choppy in a northerly wind, and Jack managed to complete the task in 1 hour 40 minutes non-stop. He was escorted by our outgoing rescue boat Portsea Rescue 1 on one of its last operational outings.
Jack has managed to raise over £500 for the lifeguards as well as a similar amount for another charity Cancer Research UK. Well done to Jack for a great effort and for some amazing fundraising for two great causes!
