Whilst out on a local area patrol, Portsea Rescue 1 was tasked by Solent Coastguard to investigate possible person in distress off Roway Wreck after radio transmissions were heard on channel 16, an international distress channel.
At 15:50 on Sunday 24th June, Portsea Rescue 1 was tasked to possible person in the water off Roway wreck. Roway wreck is approximately 1 mile South of Eastney in Portsmouth. It took Portsea Rescue 1 just 4 minutes to arrive on scene and begin searching for the person in the water.
A search was conducted from Langstone Fairway pole to Roway wreck and 1 mile South of the wreck to the submarine barrier. An hour into the search, The Police Launch sword and other MOD vessels were tasked to help by Solent Coastguard. Portsea Rescue 1 then therefore searched the East and North of the wreck, whilst the Police and MOD vessels searched West and South of the wreck.
After the final leg of the search, Portsea Rescue 1 and the Police vessel were asked by the Coastguard to search Hayling seafront. A shoreline search between the East Winner on Hayling and Chichester harbour entrance was conducted with nothing found. On the way back round East Winner, Solent Coastguard then asked for a Portsea Rescue 1 to conduct a final sweep up the submarine barrier, from Southsea beach to Horse Sands Fort. With nothing found, Portsea Rescue 1 was stood down at 17:58 and arrived back on station to close down at 18:38.
