With RNLI Lifeguards returning to multiple beaches this weekend, including 2 beaches in Southsea, we would like to remind the public that Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards will not be patrolling this weekend amid the COVID-19 outbreak, although plans are underway to resume our patrols on Southsea beach.
We are urging the public to be cautious and to use beaches that have lifeguards this weekend if visiting the coast. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, in April we made the decision to pause our patrols on Southsea beach so far this summer. This decision was made to ensure the safety of our members during the outbreak. We are currently working very hard on plans to resume our summer lifeguard service, however there is a tremendous amount of work that must be done to ensure both the safety of the public and our own members when they patrol.
We hope to have our voluntary lifeguard service ready as soon as possible, however we are not currently in a position to roll this out. As a result, we are urging the public to stay safe when around the coast, to always use a lifeguarded beach, and to adhere to social distancing measures at all times.
Once again, thank you for your continued support during these tough times.
Remember if you or someone else is in danger while at the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
